San José is a confident and exciting city, full of optimism and
opportunity. We treasure our past. We embrace our diversity. We nurture
our future, in our children and through stewardship of our resources.
People are proud to live here. In a 2001 community survey, two-thirds
of us said our neighbors have pride in San José, and nearly 70
percent of us rate the quality of life as good or better. 92 percent of
us feel safe in our community. For over ten years, the FBI crime statistics
have shown that San José is the safest large city in the U.S.
Our city is committed to sustaining and improving the quality of life
in every neighborhood, for every resident, now and in the future. San
José has a strong reputation for creating innovative solutions
and collaborative partnerships between government, businesses, schools,
non-profits and residents to address the needs of the community.
Once you get settled, we encourage you to take advantage of the many civic,
cultural and community organizations and activities in San José.
We think you will find this a very welcoming community - one that values
the participation of all residents. The continuing health of our community
is based on strong participation by residents and businesses who work
together to enhance the quality of life we all enjoy. Not only do you
gain by becoming involved in community affairs, but the entire community
benefits as well.
A great community has a special character – a spirit that makes
it unique. San José, by this definition, is a great city, with
wonderful promise and great potential for becoming even better. You now
live in a strong, safe, and healthy community, with opportunities for
everyone. Let us be among the first to welcome you home.
