2011 REDISTRICTING

U.S. CENSUS BUREAU BROCHURES

Redistricting Data Guide (2010)

The Census Bureau has released an informational brochure, called “Strength in Numbers”, that explains where census numbers come from and the role those numbers have in the way the City of San Jose will redraw its Council District boundaries. In particular, the brochure looks at the maps and numbers that the City will receive from the Census Bureau as a part of Census 2010 and use in redistricting.

This 12-page, color brochure can be downloaded here in a PDF file format (10 MB file).

Overview of Race and Hispanic Origin (2010)

The Census Bureau has released an informational brochure, called “Overview of Race and Hispanic Origin”, that looks at our nation’s changing racial and ethnic diversity, and also provides an overview of race and ethnicity concepts and definitions used in Census 2010. The brochure notes that redistricting data “does not contain data for detailed Hispanic origin groups (e.g., Mexican or Puerto Rican) or detailed information about race or tribes (e.g., Chinese, Samoan, or Choctaw).”

This 23-page, color brochure can be downloaded here in a PDF file format.
