Green Cadre Environmental Ambassadors – Open Enrollment!

Are you 18-24 years old? Curious to learn more about the green economy? Looking for hands-on work experience, but just can’t get your foot in the door?

Be one of 50 awesome Green Cadre members to engage in various community service activities, workshops, and fieldtrips—all while developing teamwork and leadership experience. For the last 10 weeks, you will be placed at an internship site, earning a stipend of $125/week (paid bi-weekly)! Sound good? Well, what are you waiting for?

Almaden Lake Closed to all Water Activity Due to Algae Bloom
July 26, 2010
Almaden Lake is now closed to all water activity due to blue-green algae bloom; the Lake will remain closed until the bloom dissipates. The algae, identified as Cyanobacteria, can be harmful to humans, especially small children. The bloom can occur in fresh water in late summer after a warm spell of weather. Park staff will continue monitoring and testing the Lake waters as we allow the bloom to subside.

Final Community Meeting Before Council Decides on New San José Streetlights

Residents are invited to attend the final community meeting to provide input on a proposed new streetlight system before the item goes to the City Council.

Community meeting on the draft Medical Marijuana Ordinances

The City of San José will be holding a community meeting on the draft Medical Marijuana Ordinances on:

Tuesday, July 20, 2010
6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M.

Roosevelt Community Center
901 East Santa Clara Street

At this meeting, attendees will have the opportunity to self-select a topic to provide input that will help staff further develop the Ordinances for City Council consideration.  Key topics include:

  • Registration Process & Requirements
  • Operating Requirements
  • Taxing Marijuana Businesses
  • Land Use Policy

Effective July 1, Bid Openings will be held in City Hall Tower Room 550 on Thursdays at 3:00 p.m.

In an effort to streamline City processes, bid openings for construction projects will change location from the City Clerk’s Office to the Department of Public Works as of July 1, 2010.

AlertSCC - Register to receive important emergency information
June 22, 2010
The City of San José is participating in a new Countywide Emergency Notification System that will provide timely and possibly lifesaving information to registered residents. The system will be used to provide emergency alerts in San José and/or Santa Clara County. Land line phones for home and business are already in the system. You’ll need to register External Site to receive emergency alerts on your cell phone, PDA, or device for the hearing impaired. It’s a simple step that will help you be better prepared for an emergency. Register now External Site.

City’s Aquatics Partnerships Now Serving Six Sites
June 18, 2010
The City’s summer aquatics program is now operational at five pool sites and Almaden Lake. Residents have a choice of swim lessons and recreational swim at Biebrach, Camden, Fair Swim Center, Mayfair and Rotary Ryland pool sites while Almaden Lake offers recreational swim and a beach setting. The City created a unique partnership with local non-profits, California Sports Center and Sparkle Swim School, to ensure residents are able to enjoy water recreation this summer.
