DUTIES
: The San Jose Arena Authority is
a nonprofit public benefit corporation established by the
City to oversee the management and operation of HP Pavilion
at San Jose (home of the NHL San Jose Sharks) on behalf of
the City. The Arena Authority also serves as community liaison
to address the broader community issues of Pavilion day-to-day
operations. Additionally, the Authority oversees the management
and operation of San Jose Municipal Stadium (home of the California
League San Jose Giants) on behalf of the City and also has
administrative responsibilities for Sharks Ice at San Jose,
a public ice facility that is also the San Jose Sharks practice
facility.
RELATIONSHIPS :
The Arena Authority serves in an advisory capacity
to the Mayor and City Council in the oversight of the operation
of the Pavilion, the ice training facility and the baseball
stadium. Representatives from the offices of the Mayor, City
Council, City Manager and Redevelopment Agency serve as Ex-Officio
members on the Arena Authority Board of Directors.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Experience with municipal government, facility operations,
capital budget management and community relations is recommended
for candidates considering applying for a position with the
Arena Authority Board of Directors.
MEETINGS : The
Arena Authority meets the fourth Wednesday of every month
(except July and November) and holds an annual meeting the
first Wednesday in December. The meetings are generally held
at 4:00 pm in the Frank Jirik Room at HP Pavilion at San Jose.
BENEFITS : There
is no monetary compensation or other benefits for Arena Authority
Board members.
POLITICAL REFORM ACT OF 1974
AS AMENDED : The Conflict of Interests
Section of the Political Reform Act applies to the Arena Authority.
Board members are required to file a Statement of Economic
Interests, Form 700, and to disclose investments, income including
loans and gifts, and business positions. Reportable interests
are limited to persons, business entities, or other sources
providing services to HP Pavilion at San Jose, San Jose Municipal
Stadium and Sharks Ice at San Jose and real property interests
within 500 feet of any of those facilities.
APPOINTMENT PROCESS :
Following a candidate-screening period, selected candidates
are recommended to and appointed by the Mayor of San Jose.
ATTENDANCE :
Arena Authority Board members are expected to attend
all Board meetings. Board members absent without good cause
for any two Board meetings during the calendar year will forfeit
their position on the Authority Board of Directors.
